At Oromia Development Association (North America)  we have a robust form of programs that help amplify the greater Oromo region and beyond. We strive to continue to create projects that reflect our mission and vision. 

TRANSFORMING
EDUCATION: ESTABLISHING
A DIGITAL LIBRARY

The slideshow outlines a proposal for establishing a Digital Library at Dire Dawa Comprehensive Secondary School to bridge the digital divide and enhance learning opportunities for over 3,000 students.

Key Highlights

  1. Background:

    • Arif Yusuf Bakar, the founder of Bultum Academy, is driving the initiative.

    • The goal is to give back to Ethiopian schools by improving digital infrastructure.

  2. Needs Assessment:

    • Current IT resources include 51 outdated computers split between two rooms.

    • Lacks modern digital tools, IT infrastructure, G-Suite for Education, and a school website.

  3. Digital Library Setup:

    • Components: Server, Wi-Fi, devices (laptops/tablets), and open-source library software like DSpace.

    • Content: eBooks, videos, and interactive learning modules.

  4. G-Suite for Education:

    • Plan to secure free Google G-Suite access for teaching and learning tools.

  5. Website Development:

    • Launch targeted by January/February 2025.

    • Features include communication portals and achievement showcases.

  6. Implementation and Training:

    • Installation includes setting up hardware, configuring devices, and loading content.

    • Training focuses on IT staff and students.

  7. Launch Ceremony:

    • Planned for January 2025 to involve stakeholders and demonstrate the library's impact.

  8. Post-Launch Follow-Up:

    • Regular feedback and updates.

    • Sustainability through partnerships with NGOs and government support.

  9. Timeline:

    • Needs assessment and procurement in December 2024.

    • Installation and training in late December/early January 2025.

    • Launch ceremony in early January 2025.

This initiative aims to modernize education in Dire Dawa through digital tools, fostering better access to learning resources for students and teachers.
